Biography
David Goss received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Montclair State University. He has taught in the public schools of New Jersey for seven years from the 4th grade through 12th grade. The bands under his direction have received excellent ratings at numerous festivals and competition. He is presently Director of Bands at Cranford High School (Cranford, NJ). Mr. Goss is an active private teacher and has taught students from beginners to college. Currently he is a graduate student at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, working toward a Master of Music in Wind Conducting. Simultaneously he is pursuing a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at Montclair State University.
He is Assistant Conductor of the Rutherford Community Band, an ensemble which he has played in since 1993. He has guest conducting experience with the Rutgers University Wind Ensemble, Rutgers University Symphonic Band, and various high school ensembles throughout North Jersey. Mr. Goss has also participated in conducting symposiums with Eugene Corporon (University of North Texas), Dr. Mallory Thompson (Northwestern University), Larry Rachleff (Rhode Island Philharmonic), and Dr. Thomas McCauley (Montclair State University).
Mr. Goss has studied clarinet with Meighan Stoops (Da Capo Chamber Players) Maureen Hurd (Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University) and David Singer (Orpheus Chamber Orchestra/Montclair State University). As a clarinetist, David has performed in Moscow, Saratov, and St. Petersburg, Russia on 2002 tour by the Montclair State University Symphonic Band. As a member of the Rutgers Wind Ensemble, he appears on recordings on the Mark Custom label. David has also performed in the pit orchestras for the following musicals: Wizard of Oz, 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun, Children of Eden, Evita, Oliver, and Guys and Dolls.
He served as music arranger for the Mount Olive High School Marching Band for six years. His arrangements have helped the Mount Olive Band achieve awards in Best Music and State Championship trophies.
Mr. Goss is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, National Fraternity for Men of Music. He has served Sinfonia as the Province Governor (PG) of Province One since October 2004. As Province Governor for Province One, he is responsible for advising all collegiate and alumni chapters in New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. David is also one of the founding members of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia New York City Alumni Association. As a collegiate Sinfonian at the Lambda Mu Chapter, Montclair State University, he held the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Alumni Secretary. He was also the Collegiate Province Representative (CPR) for Province One from 2001-2002.
Mr. Goss holds memberships in MENC: The National Association for Music Education, College Band Directors National Association, The International Clarinet Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Boy Scouts of America.
