Biography MA Educational Leadership, Montclair State University MM Wind Conducting, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey BA Music Education, Montclair State University David Goss is currently a Graduate Teaching Fellow in Music Education and Conducting at the University of Florida. While working toward a PhD in Music Education he serves the School of Music and University Band Program in multiple roles. He has taught undergraduate music education courses, directed one of the University Concert Bands, taught undergraduate conducting classes, and is the Assistant Conductor of the University of Florida Clarinet Ensemble. Previously he taught in the public schools of New Jersey for nearly eight years from the 4th grade through 12th grade. Bands under his direction received superior ratings at festivals and competitions throughout the country. He served as Assistant Conductor and clarinetist in the Rutherford Community Band for seventeen years. He has guest conducting experience with the Rutgers University Wind Ensemble, Rutgers University Symphonic Band, and various high school ensembles throughout New Jersey. His primary conducting teachers have been Dr. David Waybright (University of Florida), Dr. William Berz (Rutgers University), and Dr. MaryAnn Craig (Montclair State University). Mr. Goss has also
participated in conducting symposiums with H. Bob Reynolds (University of Southern California), Jerry Junkin (University of Texas at Austin), Eugene Corporon (University of North Texas), Dr. Mallory Thompson
(Northwestern University), Larry Rachleff (Rhode Island Philharmonic), Dr. Thomas McCauley (Montclair State University), Dr. Kate Tamarkin (University of Virginia), and Dr. Paula Holcomb (State University of New York at Fredonia).
Mr. Goss has studied
clarinet with Mitchell Estrin (University of Florida), Meighan Stoops (Da Capo Chamber Players), Maureen Hurd (Rutgers University),
and David Singer (Orpheus Chamber Orchestra/Montclair State
University). As a clarinetist, David has performed in Moscow,
Saratov, and St. Petersburg, Russia, Paris, France, and Bremen, Germany. As a member of the Rutgers Wind Ensemble, he
appears on multiple recordings on the Mark Custom label. David
has also performed in the pit orchestras for the following musicals: Wizard
of Oz, 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun, Children
of Eden, Evita, Oliver, Guys and Dolls, and Anything Goes. Mr. Goss is a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, National Fraternity for Men of Music. He served Sinfonia as the Province Governor (PG) of Province One from October 2004 until May 2010. As Province Governor for Province One, he was responsible for advising all collegiate and alumni chapters in New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. David was also one of the founding members of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia New York City Alumni Association. As a collegiate Sinfonian at the Lambda Mu Chapter, Montclair State University, he held the offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Alumni Secretary. He was also the Collegiate Province Representative (CPR) for Province One from 2001-2002.
